childsroomDecorating a kid’s room is definitely a treat for both the parent and child—it can even be a good bonding activity for the family. Decorating a boy’s room with racecars or a girl’s with ponies seems like the obvious choice, but your child may have different desires. Since the room should be there space, it is important to have them be involved in the creative process. Here are some tips for a successful room makeover:

1. Incorporate what they like into the basic design of the room. If they are into teddy bears, think about putting a wall border with teddy bears and allotting a special area of the room for their favorite memory bear.

2. Make sure their bedding is matches the theme while still being comfortable.

3. Always keep in mind that little kids will grow up too, and they may change their favorites at the drop of a hat. Make sure you leave enough room for improvement.

hand-puppetLast year, I was volunteering at a summer camp for kindergarten-age children. For the opening day, we had to put on a demonstration on safety. It’s difficult to catch the attention of 5 and 6 year olds, so I asked my dad, a magician, on what would work. He suggested I put on a puppet show.

Purchasing a hand puppet from an online store, I put on quite a show and it was so popular that the kids wanted me to bring back Harry Bearie at the end of the camp. Having the puppet was a great way for me to break the ice with the kids and I’m more than certain that good ol’ Harry Bearie is coming back this summer.
